Take it Personal

Back in April, I had the privilege of hiking Havasupai with some friends. We were all nervous, but experienced hikers. The 10 miles in carrying a 30-pound pack didn’t seem too hard, for about 7 of the miles. I have so many pictures of the first part it should probably be embarrassing. Just after hitting the beautiful tree below, my pictures drop off significantly. Now, I had trained. I was drinking water, taking electrolytes, and eating. But my body for sure hit a wall. My pictures slowed as I focused on just one more footstep at a time. I don’t remember much of the rest of the hike after the village. I just wanted to get there. I had to forget everyone else and focus on my own body and what it needed. In the end, it was totally worth it! I was fine. But, it is a dangerous hike. Had I not ignored everything but what my own body felt, I may not have made it safely! Sometimes, you have to focus on what is important to only you.

This week in business we learned about becoming “Change-Makers”. Businesses, both large and small, can make a huge impact. When you seek to create an impact for the better, you can make a noticeable change in the atmosphere of those around you. Done right, the feeling is catching. But it can’t be something you want to do simply because it sounds good. Whatever good you intend do create, you must need it deep within your soul. It must be what drives you. It has to be the thing you focus on to help get you to the goal. Whatever business and equipment you need will come along with you and can be adjusted as needed. But when you focus on your reason why you can inspire people and create a community of people who support what you are doing.

In the end, isn’t that the goal? Make an impact. Help others. Be the example you wish to see in others. Take things personally. Have charity and just… Do good things!
