Focus

It’s interesting what different people focus on. We have this garden and each time I look at it I notice something different. New things have grown, and there are weeds to pull… maybe I see where we could place new rocks in the path. Today my daughter and I went out to see if we could finally pick something! She was so excited she grabbed a basket and was out the door before I could even get down the stairs. But as we walked along, it wasn’t the vegetables that she focused on. It was the water.

It’s been sprinkling all day and every one of the leaves had raindrops on them. But the broccoli and cabbage have BIG leaves where the water collects. She was absolutely fascinated and insisted I take a picture. It was so cute. I brought my phone so I could take a picture if we could find anything to harvest. But these raindrops that had been collected were the coolest thing to her.

This week in class we were asked to look at our focus. They gave suggestions on where to put that focus and how to benefit. They spoke of gratitude and how, when you are grateful you create a culture around you of others who are grateful. It can spread and grow like the weeds in my garden.

But my favorite part of class this week was when we read a case study on Randy Haykin. He was a pretty amazing entrepreneur, but was amazed me most was how he just kept wanting to learn. His focus was on being a good leader, helping others, and balancing his time. He absolutely was a grateful person and must have inspired that in other people. He helped so many small businesses get off the ground. But in every part he talked about, there was a comment about balancing those goals and changing them to become better. He always wanted to help others and made doing so the top goal in his career.

Starting a business and being an entrepreneur can seem so intimidating. It comes with a lot of risk and not always much reward. But in truth, doing it long-term is about balancing your priorities. If that is helping others and learning is something you seek, then being an entrepreneur is a great goal to have! Choose the right focus and you will be successful at whatever your endeavors may be.
